On April 17, 1961 over 1,000 armed, trained Cubans stormed ashore at the Bahía de Cochinos in Cuba. The battle that followed would go down in infamy as the “Bay of Pigs Invasion”. Why did it fail? Was the CIA’s planning saddled with wishful thinking instead of proper intelligence and planning? Were the Cubans betrayed by the Kennedy administration? We will attempt to get to what happened and, more importantly, why.
