ID : 1818
« back to classes page
In early 1861, Florida became the third of 11 states to secede from the Union. Join docents from the Tampa Bay History Center to learn what role Florida played in the Civil War, why the state’s leaders decided to secede, and how cattle, salt, and lighthouses factored into the decision. The docents will also discuss the roles played by enslaved people and Native Americans and how the Confederacy’s surrender affected Floridians.
